Question: What is causing a squealing noise in my Precor elliptical?
Question Description:
I have a YouTube video of this squeaking here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1T87_R8izc
Answer#1: Yes it most likely the belts or unequal tension between the two belts. The belt can be changed after removing the pedal arms, loosing the two bolts at the back edge of the frame and them remove the flywheel. disassemble, replace the two belts, reassemble. tight the two bolts evenly to tension the first belt, then loosen the hold down bolt on the idler pulley and then turn the allen head screw to adjust the second belt.retighten the hold down bolt
Answer#2: Here's what I notice. Going forward= low frequency sound (low pitch)Going backward = high frequency soundThat means there is something rubbing two of the pulleys, as if there is a piece of belting stuck on a rod or part of the unit frame and when the rotation changes it goes from one pulley to the next. I don't know how these creatures work, but I'm almost certain that replacing the belt will fix the problem. That is, if you CAN replace the frakking thing.
