Question: Eliptical machine?


Question Description:
I cant afford a personal trainer (I can barely afford a gym membership at all). I got on the eliptical machine last night for about 20 mins (all i could take at the time, this time should increase as i get used to it), and i notice that it mainly worked out my legs. It has the hand-bars but all i did with that is hold onto them and i'm not sure that I was doing it right at all. What is the proper way to use the eliptical machine and how effective is it in with cardio training?Spin: My skin tone is exactly how i want it.

Answer#1: It sounds like you're doing the elliptical just right! The more you do it, the less you have the need to hold onto the bars. 20 minutes is excellent! Many times ladies who start with it can only be on it for 2 minutes! Good job! This machine is one of the best for cardio. You can increase the resistance to make it more difficult, and choose programs that will be more challenging as well. Work up to 30 minutes on it working hard, it will be good for your heart and you will be burning fat as well, good job girl!


Answer#2: If the hand levers move, then push and pull on them. The machine will work your lower body mostly.


Answer#3: It's main use is for cardio and it's really effective. Eliptical is great because you aren't really concentrating on form or technique so you can really kick it in an focus on your heart rate which is the most important thing in working out for weight loss and cardio strength. The main workout for this is your legs and your arms only work if you are contracting and using your arms to propel your feet instead of the other way around. If you aren't completely set on using an eliptical or having a gym membership, the best thing to do is get a Gazelle. They're amazing and work you out really well. On this, you can work on your arms, butt, chest, calves, thighs, abs and obliques by tilting and turning different ways. Good luck.


Answer#4: Yeah.... when I first started using that....I could only do about 20 mins... after awhile I got up to 30, 40, 50, and hour.. So once you get use to it the better it'll be..... =)


Answer#5: the proper form is a combination of arms and legs. The cardio is wonderful. about the only thing better is running. 20 min. is a good start.
