Question: Eliptical machine help please????

Question Description:
I got a gym membership at started a few weeks ago. I am 47, 5"7" and weigh 150. I always weighed in the 132-136 range as a rule or if I didn't I could drop down to that easy. But I quit smoking. Now it seems I cannot lose the weight. I have done South Beach diet and have done weights and 4 miles treadmill at a fast pace walking per day. Tonite I tried the eliptical machine and I could not even do more than 3 minutes straight without stopping. I had it at a setting that was fat burn then dropped it to cardio but still it was awful. What setting should I have it at? Can anyone help me out with this machine? Weight loss?

Answer#1: OK pat your self on the back!! First time I got on the elliptical I lasted like 3 mins jumped off it kicked it and went for a speed walk every day foe a month until I hope back on it again!!LOL! Now I can stay on it for A full hour!! I love my machine....However I told my self that I would go really slow so that I wouldn't quit. I have lost about 26 pounds!!! I suggest that you do it at the lowest level so you will not quit. MY level that I liked (although I was really pushing my self) was incline to 30degrees resistance at a three . I have friends that can put the resistance all the way up to 10 for a half hour!!! there is no way I will ever be able to do that but I'm glad that I got back on it and pushed my self !! You can do it to . And believe me its worth it good luck

Answer#2: Put it on whatever setting it takes so that you can do it for at least 20 minutes. Keep doing it. Over time, as you get in better shape you'll be able to do it on harder setting for a longer time.Bear in mind that at the easier settings you're not burning a lot of calories, so don't expect much in the way of results for a few months until you can go longer and harder. Part of the problem is that the toxins in cigarettes were making your body work harder just to function. But of course we don't want to go back to THAT, do we?

Answer#3: I was dying the first time I went on the elliptical and I usually run 2 miles... You just need to get use to it be because you are using different leg muscles...

Answer#4: Just lower your levels using the arrow buttons. Lower the incline a little. Experiment. As long as you are moving that's the best part! go easy on yourself. We love you even just as you are!!
