Question: Does an eliptical work out your body more than a tredmill?
Question Description:
I'm wondering what one to buy. Tredmill or Eliptical. What will i get better results with or are they the same. Whats more worth my money?
Answer#1: I prefer an elliptical. There is a lot less impact on your knees when you use it. I also feel it works the muscles in the legs a lot better, and it gives the unique option of being about to use the elliptical in a forward motion or backward. Moving your legs in a backward ellipse is really quite difficult and I can really feel the muscles being used. That's something I just can't get from a treadmill.I will say, you should choose the machine that you feel you will use the most, or the machine you find is more fun. That'll make you more likely to actually use it, to reap the benefits.
Answer#2: Either one will work. The difference in cals burnt are pretty close when comparing the same time and intensity. If you are a runner and enjoy jogging/running then I would choose the treadmill. If you are just looking to burn the calories as an exercise go with the elliptical, it's also easier on your joints. They are both worth the money as long as you use them consistently. Too many people buy these and they end up collecting dust in their basement.Hope this helpsSteve
Answer#3: If the Eliptical is one with the handles that move back and forth, then yes, it does work more than a treadmil.I prefer the Eliptical. Even if it does not have handles, it is easier on your knees and hips because there is no pounding force put on those joints as you walk or run. With a treadmil on the other hand, you have to lift your feet and place them back down on the track... with long term running, this can be very detrimental to your knees especially. The eliptical offers a more smooth movement.
Answer#4: I prefer the elliptical, but that's a personal choice. Both can burn calories, probably about equally. If you run a mile in ten minutes, that's 700 calories. I haven't been able to run since I had a recent injury, but I've been using my roommate's elliptical and I can burn 700 calories on it in about half an hour, but due to the nature of the movement I go a lot slower than when I run. I guess it all depends.Elliptical are also great for your legs/butt. It's very localized in that way. If you're looking to work out your entire body, alternate elliptical work with strengthening/toning exercises for the abs and upper body.I am personally not a treadmill fan because I figure if I want to walk or run, I can just go outside and work out the exact same muscles as I would with a treadmill. But elliptical work on different muscles.
Answer#5: I say the elliptical. You are using more muscles and are making larger movements which in turn burns more calories
