Question: Treadmill running vrs. Eliptical running?
Question Description:
I am afraid of running on a treadmill so does running on the eliptical give you the same effects as treadmill running (calories burnt, endurance ect.)
Answer#1: Treadmill is harder on the joints, (knees, ankles, just the body in general). elliptical is great since it's low impact, but like others on here say, you can adjust the resistance to strain the muscles more, and on the ones where they have handlebars that move, it adds a little extra work out for your upperbody. just stay within your heart range...220 minus your age...take 75% of that to get the heart rate that you'll burn the most fat. People are mislead in to thinking that they have to sweat a gallon of water and make the machines all nasty to burn fat. When in reality, when you're working at a higher heart rate, your body burns fuel first (the food you've eaten), then muscle...when you work at a lower heart rate, your body burns fuel, then fat! It's a mental thing that you have to sweat to get a good work out. In less than a week i've dropped a pound...and i'm NOWHERE near fat. just tryin to tone up!
Answer#2: I like the eliptical better. You burn more calories with the same amount of workout time.
Answer#3: The treadmill is harder on your knees but burns more calories. I would just run outside unless it's too hot or too cold or raining. The Eliptical is less hard on knees but sometimes your feet go to sleep.
Answer#4: elipticals are easier on the knees. They dont give you the same work out though.
Answer#5: Working out on an elliptical trainer can actually burn more calories and push you in ways a treadmill can't.
Answer#6: those machienes are great, you work more of your body, and ther's no impact
Answer#7: There is no reason to be afraid of a treadmill. Try it and ill promise youll like it.
Answer#8: elliptical running is low impact compared to the treadmill. And on the treadmill you have to run substaintually more, compared to running on the street. But nothing beats pounding the pavement
Answer#9: A little less, not much....but MUCH better on the knees. Eliptical is adjustable, too, so you can up your workout.
Answer#10: Calories burnt are a little less, but you work your arms and obliques a bit more
