Question: I am 6 weeks pregnant. I dont want to gain weight, Is it ok if i walk 3 miles /hr and do eliptical for 15 min.
Question Description:
i want to go to gym and do walking in thread mill and eliptical everyday.Iam not doing any weight or anything ? is it ok?Thanks for all your answers. i should have mentioned i dont want to gain unwanted weight, instead of saying i dont want to gain weight at all. I luv my baby to death. I consider my pregency as a wonderful gift from God. I want to have a healthy pregency and healthy baby that was the whole point in that. pl let me know wat are the other things for things (food,etc). thank again
Answer#1: Yes, you can do this sort of moderate exercise provided there's not a specific problem with your pregnancy. Your doctor will tell you if you need to curtail your activities further.Of course you're going to gain weight, but there's no reason why you can't exercise to keep the excess fat gain to a minimum and keep your body in shape for labor and delivery (and eventually chasing a toddler around.)
Answer#2: It is dangerous to restrict your weight gain during pregnancy. If you want a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby then you will not worry about how much you gain. Now exercising is a wonderful. Even during pregnancy. It will help you keep in shape and you will bounce back to pre-pregnancy size quickly. But I have to reiterate...DO NOT restrict your weight gain. You will suffer as will your baby.
Answer#3: If you do not want to gain weight, then in all honesty you shoud have never gotten pregnant. You must gain weight while pregnant for the baby. Talk to your OB doctor about safe exercises that you can do while pregnant but you will still gain weight whether you like it or not. That is a part of being pregnant...gaining weight.

Talk to your doctor first, however. Don't push yourself too hard. Listen to your body. If you can't go on, don't go on. Pregnancy is a time to enjoy the weight gain. Love your body. Answer#5: It is possible, and healthy for you to continue for the first trimester anyway,your regular exercise prgram. I hope you realize though, that you will gain weight because you are pregnant and it is healthy to do so.just because you are pregnant doesn't mean that you have to give up healthy exercise but please be realistic about your goals. My youngest 2 children were premature, and trust me, you want to have your baby on time.If you start bleeding,or feel wrong,go see your practioner, enjoy and congrats!
Answer#6: I walked every other day while I was pregnant. Not so I wouldnt gain weight but because I heard it was good for you and the baby. I ended up only gaining 15 lbs the whole pregnancy. I dont know if it had anything to do with the walking or that I just couldnt grow anymore but I still had a healthy 6 lbs baby and it was easy to lose weight afterwards.
Answer#7: Your going to gain weight regardless...that's natural. I've been told whatever you were doing before...you can continue to do as long as your careful. If you weren't walking 3 miles a day in a hour before..then don't do it now. You can walk, but don't over do yourself and take it easy. G
Answer#8: youre going to gain weight either way 25-35 lbs (thats the estimated weight a woman gains during pregnancy) because the baby is growing but if you want to reduce the extra weight that you gain then you can work out but you cannot let your heart rate get over 140-144 beats per minute you can cause serious damage to the baby working out is awsome during pregnancy it helps you to continue to feel good about yourself and it helps drastically during labor i got on the eliptical and treadmill as well as walked 1-2 miles with my first and i continue to go to the gym with this pregnancy too. i even use 5-8 lb dumbells to keep my arms looking decent. just don't stress yourself out you have to gain some weight to provide for the baby and remember that 25-35 lbs is all baby anything over is body fat cardio should be the main thing you do if you don't want to gain alot of weight you CANNOT do sit ups or crunches because you can put a hole in your abdomen or seperate the placenta. i think you'll be fine just eat good and continue to exercise good luck
Answer#9: I agree 110% with thatmadlass - I would like to add that if you are walking/exercising and notice any cramping during or after your exercise routine - you've gone way overboard - back off a bit and take it easy. Good luck and have a healthy pregnancy!
Answer#10: Speak with your doctor about what a healthy rate of weight gain should be. Yes, you should gain some weight.And walking is a fabulous exercise whether you are pregnant or not. While pregnant I would do any strenuous exercise, but walking will actually help strengthen the muscles that will support the baby.congratulations on the pregnancy
Answer#11: For one thing, you are growing a child inside..you are going to gain some weight. The doctor will tell you that you can still carry on as normal, even with exercise but don't lift, and don't do anything that you aren't already used to doing, you don't want to strain yourself, and do any damage. Be carefull with stretching as well. Be aware that it is not a bad thing to gain some weight and the doctor will expect you to gain some as this pertains directly the health of the baby. But there is certainly nothing wrong with exercise, but you may need to adapt your program, especially when your belly begins to protrude more. If you aren't used to that kind of exercise already, you doctor will likely end up telling don't start now, because your body is definatly not up or ready for that kind of movement and stress. Answer#12: they say you can do what you were doing right up until to have the baby. if you were walking 3 miles before than it's ok. if you weren't then take it slow, start with like 1/2 a mile and work your way up. don't strain your self or your unborn child. they have alot of execrises you can do that won't hurt you or the baby.
Answer#13: You should talk to your doctor about this. I think light exercise would be okay until the 7th or 8th month. What concerns me is tht you don't want to gain weight? You have to for the baby to survive, you don't have double your body weight like some women. But trying not to gain weight could lead to a miscarriage. One lady I know was on a feeding tube in a hospital for five months because she refused to let herself gain weight, even after she had two miscarriages for that same reason.

Answer#16: I think if you do "some" exercise for 5 minutes, 3 days a week, you will be fine and just watch what you eat. But you have to eat three meals a day-breakfast, lunch and dinner and maybe a snack and keep every meal a good size plate for yourself and your baby. Good luck!

Answer#18: I worked out through my entire pregnancy doing adleast an hour workout . As long as your doctor says its OK, go for it! You'll feel better, sleep better, and have an easier time losing that baby weight. Just make sure you are eating enough to take care of that baby!

It isn't a free card to eat all the junk under the sun, u can eat healthy and all you will gain is baby weight which is lost easy after baby is born.As for exercise - don't do anything that you are not already doing. Now is not the time to start a new fitness regime. If you are a fit and sctive person then continue but don't start anything right now - ask your Dr.A walk at that pace is just right, but get out in the fresh air if you can cos then it will be even better for baby!
