Question: Home Gym help?

Question Description:
i decided to get a home gym to join my treadmill (that i never use) in my spare room. I figured instead of joining a gym and paying the montly fees, i would rather have a gym in my house to work out whenever and it sounds like a cheaper option. i find it hard to find a home gym that will work out the abs area...i found one at sears http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Strength+Training&pid=00614623000&vertical=FIT&subcat=Weight+Systems+%26+Resistance+Machines&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes and also this http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?vertical=FIT&cat=Strength+Training&subcat=Weight+Systems+%26+Resistance+Machines&pid=00610185000&BV_UseBVCookie=Yesanybody know anything about these products? will they get the job done? and also, are they reliable? i'm looking to spend around 400-500$ or slightly more if it's really worth it, any suggestions?

Answer#1: I have a home gym, for consumer reports, check the models you're considering at epinion.com or epinions.comIt's a lot of money to invest in something new. Otherwise you might want to check out craigslist.com for something used.

Answer#2: Having a home gym is a great way to go - unless it will just be a companion to the treadmill. ;-)I bought one a couple of years ago and use it daily (unless I have an injury, or am on vacation). When I was a gym member, I would miss some time for an injury - and then miss my money. This will pay for itself in a year or two of gym memberships. The best way to decide is to go to the store and try them out. Get to know what exercises you can do on each, and which has all the stuff you need. I use a model that pro gyms use, but you probably don't need something that fancy. Just check out reliability on weightlifting websites and magazines, or talk to someone at a local gym.

Answer#3: Try this one http://www.weiderfitness.com/ . I bought it years ago, but it is still reasonably priced. It is very similar to the BowFlex and it is right in your price range.

Answer#4: While a home gym might be less expensive, I find that joining a gym will increase your confidence as you get comfortable having people around you as you work out. Just what I think.Plus there are trainers and people that can help spot you. Certain exercises can be dangerous if performed with poor technique when by yourself.
