Question: Exercise Bike or Aerobics?

Question Description:
My workout scedule is currently like this:Mon - 1hr weightsTues - 50 mins Advanced AerobicsWed - 1 hr weightsThurs -Fri 1 - 50 mins cardio Step AerobicsSat - 1 hr weight and cardio mixedI need to lose more weight so I bought an exercise bike. I am going to replace my cardio days with an hour of exercise bike and use the exercise bike on my other day off and a little on my weight training days. Do you think this will work? Is an hour on the exercise bike as good as 50 mins doing step aerobics?

Answer#1: There's no way to compare between 2 cardio exercises. It boils down to how intense you do the exercises. For e.g. for exercise bike, if you cycle vigorously, generally speaking, you'll burn about 600-800 calories. For step aerobics, may be at high intensity, you may burn about 350 -400 calories?Calories aside, the goodness of cardio exercise is in the area of whether:-it revs up your heart rate, to exercise your heart, to make it strong -it cranks up your metabolism to hike up your fat burning capacity, to burn fat faster, so you lose weightIf these 2 are in the cardios you choose to do, then all's fine.Exercise bike and step aerobics have these 2 things going for you, so you may want to alternately do these 2 exercises.

Answer#2: yes, depending on what intensity & speed you'll be using. It would be good to alternate your workouts to 'challenge' your muscles, and make sure you have 2 days off a week for your muscles to rest. This will enable your body to burn more calories. Good luck!

Answer#3: Depends if you get your heart rate up or if you just do a constant easy ride for an hour.
