Question: Converting a normal bike to an exercise bike.?

Question Description:
Does anyone know how you can convert a normal bike into an exercise bike? Is there a gadget to do this, what is it called and where in the UK could I buy one?

Answer#1: Turbo trainer. It lifts the rear wheel off the ground so that it can spin and allows you to adjust the resitance on it.On-line bike parts: www.wiggle.co.ukThere are quite a few around second hand eg. eBay or classified in bike mags. You can pay 200 pounds for a sophisiticated one or should get a basic second hand one for 30 pounds or so.

Answer#2: Its called a turbo trainer. Depending on the design you might just put the back wheel in a cradle, front wheel on the floor, and pedal away, on others there is a bracket for the front fork - you remove the front wheel and place the drop outs of the fork in the braket, which gives a more upright, normal posture.http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Categories.aspx?CategoryID=309Above is a link to an online bike shop I use a lot, I've linked their page on turbo trainers.

Answer#3: Riding a bike is exercise. Is this a trick question ?

Answer#4: Commonly called turbo trainers since the original ones used a fan to create resistance but they can now be bought with magnetic and oil resistance units. Oil generally provides the best compromise between "feel" and low noise. They can be bought at any decent bike shop and mail order on the internet but they are heavy and might cost a fair bit in postage.Mine is made by Elitehttp://www.elite-it.com/jsp/c-Prodotti.jsp?FAM=1&LANG=ENGhttp://www.wiggle.co.uk/CategoryProducts.aspx?categoryName=Trainers&cat=CyclePS. if you do get one, make sure you have a smooth treaded back tyre as opposed to a chunky mountain bike tyre or you will sound like a tank coming down the road and you'll get lots of vibration going up your bum... ooer!

Answer#5: just get your cheap ass off the couch and buy an exercise bike

Answer#6: You pop it on your back wheel so it spins with the wheel of the ground. Try a proper cycle shop for one. Best option is to actually ride your bike outside as it was designed.

Answer#7: you won't have any Resistance, elliptical machines are pretty cheap.

Answer#8: In the UK you can get them at Halfords and JJB

Answer#9: It's called a trainer and you hook up the rear wheel to the trainer. You can still ride it on the street if you want to, just take it off the trainer. There are also rollers, but they're more difficult to use

Answer#10: You need one of those stands that prop the back wheel up.
