Question: Strength Training?
Question Description:
I do 18 sets of bicep curls. Half is regular standing dumbbell curls, the other hammer curls. I use pretty heavy weights well their heavy for me 60 pounds. I take 3 minute breaks between the sets. This routine has been working for me I use to be able to only do 40 pounds 3 month's later I'm doing 60. I could probably do 70 pounds, but I only wait until the weight feels kind of light. Any way’s I just wanted to know if I’m doing too many sets, or too little sets, or to little reps, etc. If I am please feel free to offer advice on how I could improve this. Remember I'm going for strength not size.
Answer#1: It sounds like your body is responding well the program you've got. That's pretty impressive.I think you've hit the right amount of sets and Muscle and Fitness magazine recommends going heavy for strength. I suggest, though, trying other forms of bicep exercises. Try preacher curls, standing cable curls or even zottoman curls. Here are some sample exercises: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?MainMuscle=Biceps I've also gotten a lot of mileage from doing curls while reclining on an incline bench. If your bicep strength tapers off you might want to change your routine. Also keep in mind that other exercises (particularly those done for your back) also work your biceps, so be sure you have adequate rest between workouts. You might find it help to get a subscription to Muscle and Fitness magazine. They cover topics like this and offer a lot of solid advice.Good luck.
