Question: Strength Training at Home?
Question Description:
Hi, I'm a teenage basketball player who wants to work on my strength. Does anyone know any inexpensive home gyms, or machines, or methods I can do strength training at home? I've done light dumbbells, pushups, and jumprope for a while now. I want to go into heavy weight low reps.Is there any method for me to work all my muscle groups at home?
Answer#1: Hell yes. If you're looking at gaining muscle, you don't need to join a gym even if it is really convenient. There are scores of exercises you can do to help build muscle at home and a lot of them can be rather inexpensive. The only real downside to this is if you're working out all alone you can't go too heavy as it's dangerous if you don't have a spotter. There are self-spotting rigs you can set up however but you need to make sure your ceiling is up to the task.I'll give you two websites showing different exercises that can be done. One shows how to work all muscle groups including how to work them using different things (barbell, dumb bells, cable machines). The other is a pretty good look at home workouts including some videos and how to set things up.http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html - All muscle groups listed here.http://fitness.scoobysworkshop.com/ - A pretty good site including a fantastic chest workout. I can honestly say it's one of the best I've ever done.
Answer#2: google "calisthenics" and you'll find dozens of great strength training exercises you can do all summer at no cost. There is SO much people can do without a home gym or gym membership, and most of it is more effective than what people do with equipment.
