Question: Strength training tips for a girl? I'm a beginner.?
Question Description:
So you have any tips for strength training the whole body? I'm a beginner. I own a pair of 3 lb dumbbells.
Answer#1: 3 lb dumbells aren't gonna do much, I'm afraid. You need to use the heavy weights to get any effect. Don't worry about getting all big and bulky like a man. We don't have enough testosterone for that to happen without steroids. Also, don't work out the same muscles every day. Do your upper body one day, and your lower body the next. Muscle only builds when you're resting, not when you're working them out. You're actually tearing them up a bit when you're working them out, and the rest time gives them time to heal and end up stronger than they were.
Answer#2: Go to elitefitness.com and you can ask all types of workout questions. There are alot of female bodybuilders, trainers, and athletes there and they are all pretty cool. They have forums there and its a free site. You don't even have to ask questions, just troll the forums and you will probably see what your looking for. They also have info on diet, which is VERY important for strength training. VERY important. You will get a better idea of what you need to know there than what someone can tell you here in one answer.
Answer#3: YES!! Get the "Body for Life" book that has awesome dumbell excercises that target every area of the body!! Its an awesome work out - i dont do the diet but the exercises are great and will really tone you up!!
