Question: Need strength training tips?
Question Description:
I'd like to start strength training at home, but am not sure how to get started. Anyone know of any good websites/books that explain what is needed, what exercises to do, etc.
Answer#1: From my sister, who joined the navy and went from a size 12 to a size 6 in 8 weeks: Do about 15 reps of each, 1-2 setsPushups (these work out arms and abs really good). SitupsCrunchesLungesSquatsMountain climbersScissors (abs), kinda criss cross the legs while laying on backJumping jacksAlso start running. In their bootcamp, they started at just 7 minutes, and worked up to 30-45 minutes.Oh, and the strength training (and running) was done 6 days a week for 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, bring down strength training to 3 days a week, but still continue to run a lot.
Answer#2: The first link below is to an article explaining the ACSM's (American College of Sports Medicine) guidelines for resistance training. The second link is to an article explaining the three parts to any workout. Go to http://straighthealth.com for more information on exercising.
