Question: Can weight training help me lose weight?
Question Description:
Im young and can't lift all that heavy stuff, but i'd like to know if "curling" with a hand-held weight can help me lose weight. (I know it will define my biceps) If i can lose weight, would it compare to say running on a precore / stepping machine?
Answer#1: I recommend both. weight training builds muscle which burns more fat even when sedentary, but you need cardio work to keep your heart healthy and that also keeps your muscles fit. cardio work burns fat as well
Answer#2: weightlifting in combination with diet and some cardiovascular exercise will help you lose weight. Curling does not activate enough muscle to cause any weight loss - you need to work the large muscles like those in your legs, back and chest to help take the weight off. The Precore/Stepping machine would be more effective than curls, but it is a cardio exercise.
Answer#3: Absolutely. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism becomes and it burns fuel (food) more efficiently. You still need to do the cardio to burn fat though. A combination is best. Don't leave out the leg muscles, the larger the muscle, the better the fat burning effects.
Answer#4: It can help you lose weight over a year's time. Most don't lose more than 10-20 pounds due to weight training alone. It also helps you to maintain the loss you've already managed.
Answer#5: it will burn the fat away but it will incresee your weight as muscle weighs more than fat, but people with muscle dont look sick as fat people
