Question: Whey Protein. Does it help control hunger?
Question Description:
Several diet shakes advertise their high protein amounts as means to help control hunger - or so I've come to believe.Do Whey protein supplements achieve the same? Some whey protein powders seem to have up to 46grms of protein per serving and just a few net carbs. I always thought whey protein was meant for muscle recovery/growth when accompanied with excercise.Nutritional of whey protein suggested by co-worker.Calories 120 Calories 20 Total Fat 2g 3% Saturated Fat 1g 4% Trans Fat 0g Cholesterol 70mg 24% Total Carbohydrates 2g 1% Dietary Fiber 0g Sugars 1g Protein 23g 46%
Answer#1: It is better to rely on foods or supplement bars that have more fiber in them. Fiber is what keeps you feeling full. Try flaxseed instead of whey protein.
Answer#2: The fat in your food makes you feel full. This is why you can eat 42 carrots and still feel hungry. If you find yourself mindlessly eating because you want to feel full then try eating a little bit higher fat content foods (steak instead of whey protein) and it will curb your hunger. Hope this helps.
Answer#3: Just remember that whey protein has 70 grams of cholesterol, aka 700 mg! That's way too much for most people and will shoot your chances of having heart issues or a heart attack sky high.
