Question: Is "soy protein isolates" good or bad?
Question Description:
I have been told different things, is soy protein isolates a good thing or bad? Is it a natural ingredient or manufactured?
Answer#1: It's good, it's obviously high in protein if that's a concern of yours, one ounce of the purified powder has about half the protein you need for the entire day. It's also a good source of folate, iron, phosphorus, copper and magnesium! If you make your living off selling animal products it's a nightmare, so they've spent quite a lot of time and money trying to play up how bad it is for you. It's cost them a LOT of money in lost sales! Unlike animal products there are NO hormones in any plant based food including soy protein isolate (also called ISP). Soy does contain a class of compounds usually called phtyo-sterols, also called isoflavones or more simply just sterols, these compounds are generally regarded as healthy but there are a few that are toxic. The toxic ones are destroyed in the processing of soybeans into ISP. The meat industry is totally double-faced on this fake issue, they like to complain about phyto-sterols in soybeans but they also tell you that processed soy is bad because it lacks isoflavones (they're the SAME thing). If it's really important for humans to not consume hormones they should be advocating a vegan diet since only vegans never consume hormones!Hexane is a popular scare tactic that's used by both the meat industry and the 'organic' industry to try to scare you back towards their products. Both ignore that hexane naturally occurs in almost everything humans eat! There's even a trace of it naturally made in your own body by the good bacteria in your intestines! It's used by food companies to extract oil from just about anything you can think of including soybeans. Companies that make ISP do not use hexane (they have no reason to), they buy human food grade soymeal from companies that sell soybean oil (soymeal is what's left over after you remove the oil from soybeans). Those oil companies use hexane, tiny amounts often remain in soymeal and almost all of that gets boiled out of the soymeal when ISP makers remove the starch! Human food grade ISP has less hexane by weight than food oils and aromatic vegetables. The real problem with ISP (healthwise) is that it makes it easy to eat too much protein but that's not a problem unless you're eating the pure powder. Keep in mind that in commercial foods that use it (like a Boca or MS Farms product) a serving of the food usually has less than 1/3rd ounce! It's good for you unless you're eating pounds of it a day (the amounts the scary people speak of when they try to scare you).
Answer#2: i don't like iti won't eat it/full time vegetarian, part time vegan
Answer#3: Soy protein isolates is highly refined soy protein. Generally it's not bad, but when it is its bad because its refined.
Answer#4: Soy Protein IsolateThis is a common ingredient in Protein Bars and shakes. Stay Away From This! You will Almost Never See organic SPI. The reason for this is that in the processing of SPI Hexane is often used. Hexane is a petroleum Solvent similar to Gasoline.Certainly these chemicals, or residue of these chemicals remain in the food, But are never listed in the label.
Answer#5: Soy protien is junk. Your body can barely use it, and in men it increases estrogen levels, and shuts down testosterone production. Isolate just means the protien is separated form the fat and carbs. It's not very natural, either.
