Question: Does soy protein powder make you gain weight?
Question Description:
I run 30 mins. in the morning and 30 mins. in the evening, so I bought some because I know I'm in need of protein. If soy protein powder can make me gain weight, is there anything I can do or eat to prevent it?
Answer#1: Hoodia makes it possible to stick to your diet, yet reducing or keeping your weight at bay. Get an FDA approved, licensed company.
Answer#2: Anything will make you gain weight if you eat too much of it. Are you a vegetarian? If not why not just eat some meat. Most people are not deficient in protein especially men as they tend to eat more meat. I am wondering how you know you are in need of protein. If it is because you run 30 mins twice a day then this is not a good reason I'm afraid. Also you will not build muscle bulk by running 30 mins twice a day it's the wrong energy system and and muscle fiber type. yes as the chap stated protein powders can cause fluid retention which may add a little weight.Leave the protein powder if you do not want to gain weight and just have a healthy diet eating small and regularly. Add some resistance training to your weekly regime and if you control your calorific intake, rest well and drink plenty of water you will see the weight come off.
Answer#3: well...there's a couple ways of looking at this. in short, yes soy protein powder can make you gain weight...but not in the way you might be thinking.soy protein contains lots of estrogen which can cause fluid retention in the body. often girls who start birth control complain that they "gain weight" from starting on their pills but its just fluid retention. so when you weigh yourself you may be "heaver" but its only because you're holding onto water more than you would before. when you stop the soy protein the fluid retention also stops so you lose the extra lb or so that you gained.by taking protein supplements in general it makes it easy for our body to build muscle so if you're running lots then you may be building muscles as well...and muscle is heavy!
Answer#4: You will probably gain muscle weight, the extra protein from the soy going to build them up faster. Why worry about muscle weight though, the cardio exercise you are doing will keep you from getting too bulky if that is what you are afraid of.
