Question: If I lift weights, will Soy protein Supplement help me?

Question Description:
I've been eating beans and rice everyday, but I want somethin ga little extra. Meat protein, whey and egg protein upsets my stomach. Soy, peanut butter and bean protein are easier for my stomach. But , are those acceptable types of protiens?

Answer#1: Soy, peanuts, and beans are okay sources of protein. But non-pasteurized milk is the absolute best source of protein that is almost fully digestable by the body. I read an article about a study some scientists did about muscle protein retention between soy and milk. MILK WON!!!

Answer#2: Yes - soy protein is fine. Egg protein tends to be absorbed s slowly by your body throughout the day so you can take it any time of day (its what they use in all the "time release" protein supplements. However, soy protein will be absorbed much quicker so you want to take it either before or right after your workout (or both before and after - which is what I recommend) so that you maximize strength gain. Also, if you are not eating meat, your testosterone levels tend to drop somewhat which inhibits muscle growth, decreases your energy slightly and causes your body to store fat more easily. I would recommend taking a testosterone boosting supplement along with soy protein to counter act these effects. A test booster also will help your body absorb more protein. Some good test boosters that I have used are-http://www.supplementsoutlet.com/beastsupertest.htmlhttp://www.supplementsoutlet.com/bitrki11.htmlandhttp://www.supplementsoutlet.com/badassma60.html

Answer#3: What I read most often is that you should consume 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of lean bodyweight. My most common source of protein is from TVP (made from soy protein concentrate) which is 90% protein and vital wheat gluten flour which is 75-80% protein.TVP works great for replacing ground beef in any recipe and wheat gluten can be used to make seitan and wheat roast which make excellent barbecue. EVERYTHING has protein in it. =) Eating stuff like twinkies is the only way to miss out on protein. Beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds and even some pastas are VERY high in protein. If you eat a balanced diet and only eat junk food less than a couple times a week, you will never be deficient in protein. If you have a daily protein goal, keep an eye out for protein in anything that you eat. Whether it is one gram or twenty grams, it all adds up throughout the day.Have you heard of Mike Mahler? He is vegan, a strength coach and a kettlebell instructor. He has been hired by the likes of ultimate fighter, Ken Shamrock and many others.http://www.mikemahler.com/index.htmlhttp://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mahler30.htm

Answer#4: I would recomend investing in a class on biochemical pathways focusing on anabolic. Here this is a good start...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biochemical_pathwaysthen here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabolismstudy this and you won't need to ask.but don't do steroids from what you learn, it doesn't work like that and can kill you...do it the way you are... with work. I'm giving you this as a tool to educate yourself with if you are really wanting to learn how your body works so that you can make informed decisions... not just... I need protein.good luck

Answer#5: Yes, they are but make sure you are taking in a variety of protien and not just getting it from one source. Walnuts are very good too and have omega 3 and 6 in them as well as flaxseed. Whole grain, and legumes have lots of proiten as well. However, you need to exercise caution not to intake more protien than your body uses or you will end up storing it as fat. Protien should be consumed in small amounts throughout the day and not in bulk at once. Here's a good website with protein rich foods as well as one with a list of vegetarian atheletes.
