Question: Does swimming build muscles?

Question Description:
I'm not obese/chubby/anything like that, but I really want to tone up my arms and legs and stuff. Is swimming more of a fat burner than a muscle-builder?

Answer#1: Make a ballfix for yourself and do the chin ups for your arms. For your chest, do pushups. For your shoulders, do pullups wider grip and for your abs and legs, do their respective excercises. I bet you probably know it if not, give me a shout. Swiming is just not for your legs. Now you can workout your whole body at home. ;)

Answer#2: it does both, while burning fat, you also bulid musle. another great way to tone legs and arms is playing tennis or racket ball. ...that website is great below..really tells alot of information

Answer#3: yes....

Answer#4: i think to some extent, it can & it could enhance your cardio-vascular system. but if you really want those meaty muscles for your arms & legs, you can do body-building. but if not, i think workouts on the gym, like weight lifting (you can start with 2 pounds, then eventually go to 4 pounds later). but make sure you do it slowly so your muscles will develop longer, not bulge. then you can also alternate it with swimming.goodluck. =)

Answer#5: swimming is a great calorie and fat burner.. if you really want to build muscle you would have to really train hard. using paddles will build some arm muscle, and kicking fly will tone your stomach

Answer#6: not exactly, but the swimming is a very good sport for muscles and build small muscles not same muscles build by body building, and build very good for fitness.

Answer#7: yes, look at swimmers' bodies they are so great, how they have those arms, shoulders and legs!!!and i love swimming!! <3

Answer#8: it is both

Answer#9: Swimming is widely considered the perfect exercise. It builds lean muscle mass. This is the best kind to have.

Answer#10: It builds muscles, gives you broader shoulders, etc.
