Answer: Updated January 2007To find out which treadmills
are best suited to different folks, we turned to
reviews by Consumer Reports, Runner's World,
Prevention magazine and TreadmillDoctor.com. These
comparative reviews hold more weight with us than
those from other publications, such as Consumer
Guide, TreadmillTips.com and others who make
recommendations but don't appear to conduct any
product testing of their own. The reviews from
Consumer Reports and Runner's World complement
each other nicely; both test a variety of
treadmill brands and price ranges. A review from
Prevention magazine isn't as detailed, and
includes treadmills mainly made by one company. A
review in SmartMoney magazine enlists the help of
Olympic marathon silver medalist Meb Keflezighi to
evaluate five treadmills.The reviews at
TreadmillDoctor.com trump those from Consumer
Reports, Prevention and Runner's World, however.
Though the review writeups themselves are very
short, the TreadmillDoctor website has the widest
scope, with editors having something to say about
nearly every treadmill on the market. For each
brand, editors include information on the
company's history and reputation, component
quality, overall repair history and country of
manufacture, all of which is helpful in
identifying the best treadmills. Because
TreadmillDoctor has such a long and consistent
history of rating treadmills, they hold the top
spot on our All Reviews chart.Treadmills come with
an increasing array of extra features, some of
which are useful and some which experts call
"gimmicky." Reviews say the most
important features are ease of use, pushbutton
controls, a safety key to stop the treadmill if
you fall (and to prevent children from turning it
on), a heart-rate monitor, front and side
handgrips, and wide, flat foot rails on either
side of the belt. Things like built-in fans, TV
remote-control holders and DVD players may be
frills that add to a treadmill's cost, but
treadmill reviews say it's better to get a quality
machine that will give you a good workout and that
you'll actually use. The treadmill you choose
should depend on how and how often you plan to use
it. Reviews say every-day runners need a sturdier
machine with a longer, wider belt, while
occasional walkers can get by with a more compact
treadmill and a narrower belt.Save & share

Redditdel.icio.us del.icio.usThere's a wide range
of prices and quality among treadmills, with cheap
models available in discount stores for as little
as $300. But there's a world of difference between
these cheap treadmills and the $1,000-and-up
models recommended most often in professional
reviews. The difference is aptly represented by
the manufacturer's warranty. Treadmills costing
less than $1,000, including the Epic 450MX (*est.
$900) and Image 19.0 (*est. $600) often come with
just a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.Spending
more gets you much better warranty coverage. The
Sole F80 treadmill (*est. $1,550) in
ConsumerSearch Fast Answers has a service warranty
that covers the deck, frame and motor for a
lifetime, other parts for five years and labor for
two years. Spending more for a treadmill like this
will get you better insurance against breakdowns.
This is important when you're considering fitness
equipment that weighs 200 pounds or more, where a
technician will need to come to your home for
repairs.Cheaper treadmills costing less than
$1,000 not only carry shorter warranties, but most
also don't perform as well in tests. While they
may be lighter in weight, inexpensive treadmills
can also be less stable, offer fewer features and
have smaller and narrower belts. The Weslo Cadence
G-25 (*est. $300) , for example, is an
ultra-compact treadmill. Its belt is just 43"
x 13", compared to the 55" x 20"
(or longer) belts found on other models. This
means the outsides of your feet can never be more
than 13 inches apart or you'll step on the side
rails, and the 43-inch length will barely
accommodate a walking stride. TreadmillDoctor.com
editors say that treadmills in this price range
have "cheap, cheap parts." They say the
following about the Weslo G-25: "If you can
keep this working for more than a workout or two
at the 6 MPH top speed, contact us because we'll
try to get your machine in the Smithsonian."
While reviews say the Image 19.0R (*est. $600) ,
another compact treadmill, should only be used for
walking, at least it has a wider 19-inch belt. The
Epic 450MX (*est. $900) has a 20-inch belt. Even
so, the warranty for both of these is only for 90
days, and there's a 300-pound weight limit on
these machines, so they are inappropriate for
heavier walkers.Treadmills have also been subject
to recalls fairly often -- something to check
before you consider buying a used treadmill. In
2006, Endurance recalled 700 treadmills in July
2006 because of a problem with unexpected
acceleration. Nine reports were received, though
fortunately with no resulting injuries. The
Endurance T7, T7.1, T8 and T9.1 treadmills are
affected -- sold at fitness stores from September
2004 through April 2005 for between $2,000 and
$2,500. You can contact Endurance at (800)
496-5632 to schedule a free repair.Vision Fitness
had a similar problem with the consoles on the
Vision Fitness T9200, T9250, T9450, T9500, T9600
and 9700HRT models, which were recalled in June
2006. According to the Consumer Products Safety
Commission, unexpected acceleration and elevation
could occur when using the treadmill for longer
than 30 minutes during certain programs. About 500
treadmills were sold with the defective consoles.
If you own purchased one of these treadmills in
late 2005, call Vision Fitness at 1-800-335-4348,

Question #25: ProForm EKG Treadmill?
Has anyone ever created their own program/music
disks for the ProForm 760EKG treadmill -
specifically how to create the command signals
that program the on-board computer?I'd like to
create my own program disks with my own background
music with a training program specifically for
myself.
Answer: In my whole career (about 30 Years of using an EKG
threadmill I have witnessed many changes brought
to the threadmillls.Your idea is a brillant one
and really deserves serious consideration .Among
many other parameters you should consider the1.
The high intensity level as when the heart rate
reaches (220-age)x 80%. The low intensity being
(220xage)x60%.2.The background music can be made
to have a synchronuos beat with the heart rate.
That will help tremendously in many ways.3.You can
adjust the programme where you have varying
intensity i.e. speed or/and slope angle at various
time and for varying duration ..... just to keep
stimulatinng the muscles.4 etc. etc.Go for it If
you are' computer programming' inclined.

Question #28: Should I revise this sale or is it okay?
I just sold my Proform crosswalk caliber elite
treadmill on Ebay for $330. They're going to pick
it up. I'm wondering should I have sold it for
more? Should I cancel the sale and post again?
It's only one year old. retail price is 600 to
700.
Answer: Whatever the age, it is used. Getting 50% of
retail is good for used equipment, especially
something as volatile as training equipment. You
would run the risk of getting no or a lower offers
next time around. I would take the money and run.
(but not on the threadmill)

Question #29: Is buying a refurbished treadmill a Good idea? From Horizon or any any other company?
SHOULD I BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE? http://stores.ebay.com/Horizon-Exercise-Equipmen
t-Outlet DO THEY SOUND RELIABLE? THEY
SAY THE TREADMILLS ARE REFURBISHED BY AND
SOLD DIRECTLY FROM HORIZON.. AND WHICH
MODEL SHOULD I BUY ? Im A FEMALE WHO LIKES
LIGHT JOGGING AND BRISK WALKING I have read
various posts on yahoo and seen that most
people advice against any treadmill from
icon, i.e .. nordictrack, weslo, proform ..
saying they are not sturdy.. people have
recommended horizon treadmills. so i found a
place where they sell REFURBISHED treadmills
by HORIZON at a reasonable price.. Any
other suggestions for inexpensive STURDY
treadmill models or companies?
Answer: Horizon does a good job on their factory
seconds/refurbished units. In my experience they
tend to be a little more reliable than the new
units even because of how thorough their
remanufacturing process is. Definitely stay away
from the Icon manufactured units (Proform, Weslo,
Image, Nordic Track).-The Treadmill Sensei http://www.treadmillsensei.com

Question #30: Best Treadmill at a reasonable price?
the basic facts i am 26 years old, female,
five feet and 3 inches in height i want to
buy a treadmill for use at home. I dont have time
to go to the gym anymore and there is no saf
place to walk around my home.Previously i used to
go to the gym every 6 months,, walk and jog
lightly on the treadmill for 40 minutes ( 30 mins
fast bouncy walk 10 mins light moderate
jogging).about 4to 5 times a week, for a month
and i would be in good shape Now as im older
& lack of time, i want to buy a treadmill for
home use. I have decided buying a new treadmill
from ebay.com will be best bet but im CONFUSED
about which brand to buy. I have read reviews
at treadmillsensei .com & treadmillreview.net
but my main concern is price( 450-550 $) plz
help is weslo c71 good?( nordic track 2200c or
r2200 ( difference? high price! any proform?
horizon?what model?price?image? what about new
nordictracks with lifetime motor guarantee?someone
plz guide me. i know smooth 5.25 and spirit
are great treamills but out of my price range
nordic track 2200 r or c2200is also expensive
but the lifetime motor guarantee attracted me.
weslo c71 sounds good and good price.. but
dunno? and proform has 50-50 positive and negative
reviews? and so many brands! 350, 750, 6.0 x etc!
I need a treadmill for fast walking and
moderate jogging, 2 hours a day,5- 6 days a week..
I dont usually use an incline on the
treadmill since i already have huge calves,
much bigger in proportion to the rest of my
body.* so i think using incline may make
them bigger) I want a treamill which WILL
WORK FOR MANY MANY YEARS..and which is
FOLDABLE!. STURDY yet AFFORDABLE! With foot
cushioning, heart rate monitoring, safety stop etc
in case i fall or slip and bars to hang on to if
i feel faint!. Somebody also please explain
the difference between treadmill hp and cmp
motor power?
Answer: Hi there! The easy answer first regarding
horsepower. I believe you're confused between
continuous and peak horsepower (hp). Continuous
horsepower is the maximum hp a motor can produce
continuously, based on motor temperature
limitations. Peak horsepower is the maximum hp a
motor can produce for a short burst with no
regards to engine overheating. Continuous
horspower (chp) is commonly referred to as
horsepower (hp) and is the meaningful term which
most manufacturers use to describe their
treadmills. Normally for periods of walking and
running a treadmill with an hp rating of 2.0 or
more is recommended. There are numerous treadmills
on the market, but you should forget ebay and
concentrate on buying new from an authorized
dealer so you have a valid warranty. Also, when
you buy used you could be inheriting someone elses
headaches. Treadmills fall into basic, midrange,
and high-end categories. You mentioned Weslo,
Image, and Proform treadmills, which are made by
Icon Fitness and all fall under the basic to low
midrange category of treadmills. They should only
be considered for walking as they're noisy, they
have limited warranties, and lack many features of
better machines. I'd recommend Horizon and
Endurance treadmills because I feel they're pure
quality and will last for many years to come.
Prices for Horizon models range from $624 - $1,299
(midrange category) and Endurance models range
from $999 - $2,499 (midrange to high-end
category). Both brands have all of the features
you're looking for and more!Endurance has
"Lifetime" warranties on all of their
treadmills, but you'll pay a little more.
However, I feel the Horizon line has the best
treadmills for the money, with reasonably low
prices and great warranties. Also, Horizon has
state-of-the-art features not found in plenty of
treadmill lines unless you pay top dollars, such
as a featherlight folding system, console fan,
well cushioned deck, tapered belt rollers, low
engine noise, etc.I hope that helps... Happy
treadmill hunting!
