Question #23: Anyone have a review of the Epic E 950 Elliptical?
I was looking at the Horizon EX-44 elliptical (and still #1 on my list) but I found the Epic brand online with a model that offers an adjustable stride (18-20") length and adjustable incline (10-30%), but I have been unable to find any reviews of the machine.Further research discovered that they are manufactured by Icon Health & Fitness (
http://www.iconfitness.com/ ) whose brands include Nordictrack, Weider, Pro-Form, Healthrider, Reebok, Golds Gym and others. In fact it looks like it is being branded under Reebok too as the Reebok RL 900 Elliptical.I found the machine at this link:
http://www.epicfit.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet /Product2_10651_10101_16151_-1_12004 Has anyone bought/used the machine and if so do you have any insight you can offer? I like the concept of the adjustable incline and 18-20" stride length but I don't like to jump in a pool without checking for water first.

Answer: In general, any of the product made by Icon Fitness is going to be of a lower quality, even the higher priced units. Based on what I see here in our service/repair shop, the units tend to last under a year before needing major fixes. The Reebok units used to be great, but once Icon took them over the quality dropped immensely. The adjustable stride on the Epic is iffy at best..it's built to try and duplicate what SportsArt does with their adjustable ellipticals, but with lower grade parts and manufacturing.I'd say avoid the Epic and stick with Horizon, New Balance (although the units are very long), Spirit or even Schwinn.-The Treadmill Senseiwww.treadmillsensei.com

Question #24: Im looking to purchase a treadmill does anyone know which is better, a nordictrack or spirit treadmill?
Does anyone have any suggestions other than my two choices?

Answer: Your answer is a bit loaded. Nordictrack is made by Icon Health and Fitness, the same people who manufacture Proform, Weslo, Image and a few other of the lower end, poor quality treadmills and ellipticals. In general anything from Icon is very lower end and subject to a much higher breakdown rate.Spirit, on the other hand, has been making treadmills for about 25 years now and has one of the better warranties on the market. The Spirit (and Sole treadmills as well, which are just Spirit units with a different label on them) treadmills are very sturdy and have nice large motors on them. From my experience, I'd say stay away from Icon. And, in a heads up between Nordictrack and Spirit, Spirit winds hands down every time.-The Treadmill Senseiwww.treadmillsensei.com

Question #25: I just got a nordictrack treadmill. How safe is it in an older house (1920's but updated) Im worried.?
I have this new big treadmill, and my sister said not to have the computer going at the same time i run it, they would be sharing the surge protector. How safe is it to run the treadmill with other appliances on at the same time. I have circuit breakers outside. If there was a problem, would it happen as I use it, and not later like when Im at work. I have pets and worry, thats mainly why. I don't want to endanger them as Im away. The treadmill looks huge and I had to put it in my livingroom, I tucked it into the corner. Is there any other advice I can have about electricity.. or how to run it, so that Im always safe. Thank you very much for reading this far. I would appreciate hearing from people who have treadmills, or know about electricity and appliances and such. Just asking to be safe, safe is better than sorry!Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Should be fine. Just because the house is old, the wiring has probably been rewired.

Answer: only run one major appliance or item on each plug or unit of plugs...if the electrical capacity is not up to par you risk over loading and heating the wires.....causing an outage and can even burn up the wires/melt them. Be careful of what you run on each circuit....something like a nordic track may need a circuit all its own...we installed a direct box line for ours since it would dim the room lights each time it was used.....BE CAREFUL!!!

Answer: Check the power needs for both appliances. Wattage, to be specific. I wouldn't put too big a load on an older house's wiring.

Question #28: I have a nordictrack C1800S treadmill about 4 years old.It does not work need help!?
When you turn on treadmill it runs for 1 second then stops but the timer and distance numbers keep working like your running on it.Need info on repairs.

Answer: Unfortunately, if your Nordic Track is 4 years old then it's already outlived the time it was designed to run for. Most of the Icon Fitness brands (Proform, Weslo, Nordic Track, and Image) are really only designed to work for about 2 years before dying. Can you switch the treadmill to manual mode? If you can and it runs, then the motor isn't the problem, it's probably the power relays from the console to the motor. You can generally get that fixed for $50 or so by any treadmill service tech. If the motor is dead, then you'd be looking at a replacement which gets expensive -- figure as much as $300-500 for a new motor plus installation time (2-3 hours at around $45-50/hour). I'd suggest calling Nordic Track and speaking with their tech support line. They won't do much for you, but they might have some suggestions on where you can take the unit to get diagnosed in your area. A particularly helpful tech might even walk you through the process of checking the power connectors in your treadmill. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me. Question #30: What should I buy, the bowflex TreadClimber or Nordictrack spacesaver elliptical?

Answer: I'd say go to the gym, it will get you out of the house and when you're home you don't need to think about exercising. it worked better for me that way, I'm losing about a pound a day by taking my ass off to the gym for an hour every morning
