Questions & Answers about Precor

Question #21: on Precor Eliptical machines the heart rate monitor has a weight loss zone and a cardio zone, whats best?
It seems to me that you would loose more weight by working harder and increasing your heart rate into the cardio zone thus burning more calories. If thats the case why is the lower heart rate zone called the weight loss zone.In which zone will I get better results with weight loss around the waste?

Answer: The cardio zone is for improving conditiong of the heart and vascular system at that heart rate the body goes to the glycogen stores in the muscle for its energy. Now for fat loss or weight loss the heart rate is lower allowing the body to work at breaking down the fat stores and converting to energy.Basically slowly and stedy for longer duration allows the Body to continue digesting while expending,at the higher rate the demands seem more urgent and may result in using muscle as energy.

Question #22: How accurate are the calorie counters on precor eliptical machines?
the program asks you your weight and age and from there can calculate how many calories you are burning. Do these counters take into account how much work you are actually doing, the machine has a watts generated display on it, or is it just taking an average. Does anyone have a percent error in accuracy on these things

Answer: On ANY cardio machine you can roughly calculate that you burn about 10 calories per minute. Compare it to the machine read out to see if it's close or accurate.

Question #23: I am almost 32 and work out with my heart rate between 130 and 140.is that good for weight lost or too low?
I work out about 5 days a week between 45 to 60 minutes on the treadmill or the precor, sometimes half and half. Also my resting heart rate always fluctuates. Sometimes it can go down to 68 and up to 95. Seems to change within minutes. Is that normal?

Answer: I'm pretty sure the rule is that your heart rate should equal your weight minus your age.

Answer: Define repair. If the motor is not functioning, you may need to repair the connections or replace the motor. If the physical mount is damaged, you may not be able to repair it without a machine shop.

Question #26: Another elliptical question...on a Precor machine, does distance mean miles?

Answer: If you purchased in the USA then the calculation is supposed to roughly be equivalent to miles. Obviously it is only an estimate since the elliptical movement does not translate directly into a distance.

Question #28: What is the best home gym for under $2000. I am looking at the Precor Zuma...anyone know how that is?

Answer: Don't risk your safety to save a couple bucks. Get a day pass at a real gym, test out the machines they have there, and if you like their machines, then purchase THAT brand. You want something that will last, and REAL gym machines will last.
