Question #21: Treadmill versus road race?
I lament the Nor'easter is preventing me from
practicing on the road or track so I have been
doing several workouts on the treadmill lately.
Are treadmill times known to be off from road race
times? For example, 3 weeks ago I ran a 20:31 5k
on the road. Yesterday I ran a 19:34 5k on the
treadmill. I know part of that might be some
confoundment from working out hard these last 3
weeks, but I don't think I truly improved almost a
minute in that time. Anyone know how different
treadmill vs. road race times usually differ?
Answer: treadmills are never as strenuous as actually
running on the road, but it looks like you figured
that out. you dont work your muscles nearly as
hard on a treadmill, because the machine is
actually pulling your legs back for you.I dont
know of any conversion formulas, but I've heard
that a 1.5% incline on a treadmill will be about
the same workout of a run on the road of the same
duration.

Question #23: Treadmill or Total Fitness Gym (Chuck Norris-type) - which is best?
Hi, hoping you all can help me. I can only afford
one workout machine. My main thing is that I want
to lose weight and inches. We have a basic
resistance training machine with a pulley and
weights in the back but since I started using it 6
months ago, I have actually *added* some inches,
and gained 7 pounds! I don't understand this and
it's freaking me out. We eat healthy and watch
our daily fat grams, have done that for years and
continued to when we started using this. However,
I have been slowly gaining since I began using
it... so I have stopped. I am 37 and a mom.My
husband and I are considering getting something
that would be more geared toward helping burn fat,
and are trying to decide between a good treadmill
or a generic total fitness gym. I have read that
people have lost weight and burned fat with the
tfg, but I also know a treadmill would do well
too.Which do you think would be best? Does anyone
have weight loss experience with either one?Thanx!
Amy :)
Answer: I go for TFG.

Question #26: Any treadmill regimens?
I just bought a treadmill and would like to know
if any of you have any treadmill regimens to keep
from getting bored on the treadmill or something
that will add a challenge to my workout.
Answer: You need to work up to walking at least 4.0 per
hour. I do at least 30 minutes on the treadmill
5-6 days a week. Sometimes I'll do sprints of
running, jogging and when walking again. Then
other days I'll walk for a minute @ 4.0 speed and
0% incline. Then I'll got to 12% incline the next
minute. I repeat this for 30 minutes. You will
sweat doing this.

could buy one that is self propelled.

Question #29: manual treadmill question?
okay so i borrowed this manual (no motor)
treadmill from a friend so i can get into shape.
but everytime i go on it and take two steps it
stops. i don't know whats the problem nothing
seems wrong with the belt. i'm thinkin that it
might need treadmill wax but i'm not sure. if
anyone can help me out it'll be greatly
appreciated....oh yea its a dp fitness ex 660
treadmill and i've tried searchin online nothing
to help me out in my situation thanks again
Answer: I've had at least two manual treadmills in my
lifetime albeit very reasonably priced, and they
were just more trouble than they were worth. They
never seem to have a smooth enough glide on its
tread and just feel awkward. Perhaps it is a
problem with that particular piece of equipment,
but if I were to purchase a treadmill, I would
save up my money and try to get a decently priced
motorized treadmill.

Question #30: Treadmill question....?
For the last few weeks, in an attempt to improve
my general fitness, I have taken to running on a
treadmill. Speed and distance varies, but I
usually do around 20-30 minutes a day at an
average of around 6.5 km/hr. It is definitely
improving my fitness level. For those who hit the
treadmills for general fitness, how fast do you
go, and for how long do you run for?
Answer: Hello there my advice to you is that do other
exercises with resistance before you engage on a
thread millA 20- to 30 mins is good however you
should increase the kilometers instead. It varies
with certain individuals depending on their
capacity.if your use to 20-to 30 mins then i say
stick with it...i guess the best way to increase
your workout is to try to increase your
distance...
