Questions & Answers about Strength Training

Question #1: cardio and strength training in gym?
Hi,I am a great enthusiast of going to the gym, where I split my time between cardio work..running, and strength/weight training..muscle building.I've not been since last wed due to flu.I hope to get back later this week. Will I lose much strength and fitness due to my missed week/flu?Or is strength/fitness not lost in a week?

Answer: You shouldn't lose your knack in a week, but you should take it easy while getting over the flu. Your immune system is still weak, and overdoing it could leave you open to catching more bugs.

Question #2: beginners strength training.?
I am 5'11 and weight 255 pounds currently I run 3 days a week and on the other days I dont run i want to start strength training, so what should I do if i have no muscle what so ever? do i go to a gym right away or do i do sit-ups, push-ups thing i can do with my own body weight then after awhile go to a gym? please give me some adviceMy goal is to loose weight and gain muscle, and do you think 255 pounds is a bit to heavy to start loosing weight? should i put off more pounds then start the weight training

Answer: alright..what u need to determine is , is what is ur goal. losing weight alone, or losing weight and building a physique also. now,to answer ur question really quick before i drift to far from the question, i suggest hitting the gym and forget doing plain old situps, pushups etc... reason 1 is because u can focus more on working out at a gym. there are less things that can grab ur attention at a gym, besides the little cute blonde in the spandex tights... at home u have t.v., couch, computer, and the fridge. keep up the running. are u trying to lose weight quick? here is a suggestion. cardio...lots of it...diet...high protein, low carb, low sugar...and try something called the burn, by fizogen. i used it and lost approximately 40 lbs. i was 5'6 at 212 lbs. now im 5'6 at 172 lbs. also, dont give up on situps, pullups etc, all together. include those in a gym routine...helps to better tone ur muscles. ur muscles will grow as u progress in ur exercises. just dont give up!

Question #8: Adding strength training to a workout regime - what do you recommend?
I currently do aerobic exercise (elliptical, cycling), pilates, and yoga. My goal is to be more fit, toned, and slim down my stomach. I don't want to bulk up my muscles. I understand that strength training is needed to roundout a workout routine. For my goals, does it make sense to add it? If so, what would you recommend is the best method so that I achieve toning but not bulkiness? I have access to a well-eqiupped gym and I also like working out at home, so I'm open to anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer: Basically just add about 30 minutes of weight lifting to your cardio and do it right after or right before, but don't weight lift for more than five days. It's good to weight lift and add a bit of muscle because the more muscle you've got, the better your body is at burning up calories aka losing weight.Lift for a different body part each time you go lift. Aim for 3-4 sets of 12-15 reps to get some toning results. And if you don't feel like going to the gym, do 15 sets of pushups at home. A protein shake post workout would be a smart investment for your muscle.E-mail me with questions.

Question #9: strength training?
I am planning to start weight training soon to improve strength and muscle tone, but was wondering if anyone knows other accessories apart from weights to supplement this? Stuff to help with toning the abs and core strength? Thanks

Answer: i use a pilates/ yoga band when doing pilates. ive noticed my stomach getting flatter in a week. there is also the fitness ball, which i dont use, but i hear is good. and also like a fitness rope, it has handles on the ends, i dont know the exact name of the thing, but it came with a weight loss program my mom got into. best thing, in my opinion, pilates band.
