Questions & Answers about Strength Training
Question #11: Eating right, strength training and minimal or no cardio?
Does anyone know real information on the idea
behind losing weight by eating a healthy diet,
watching caloric intake and an excersize program
that consists of strength training and minimal or
no cardio?I ask because I normally think of a
weight loss plan that includes more cardio than
strength training. I wonder if there is good
science behind this idea. How does this idea
work?Serious answers only, please.
Answer: I am not aware of any scientific study that has
looked at weight loss, healthy eating and strength
training and then divided groups (and compared
them) into cardio vs. no cardio. I would be
interested to know if there have been any studies
like this.

Question #13: Will strength training make your muscles stronger AND make them bigger?
I found a site, http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwfit/strength.html that
talks about strengh training and I like it. I know
strengh training makes your muscles stronger (duh)
BUT does it also make them buff up and get
bigger?I want them to beef up and get really big.
Is strengh training the right thing for this?
Also, how long will it take on average if I work
out once a day to get big muscles?
Answer: From personal experience, doing more reps makes
your muscles more cut. Doing higher weight and
fewer reps make them bigger. Just don't over do
it. I've hert myself too many times trying to add
weight. =P

Question #16: Will strength training help my running performance?
I've been running a lot to condition for
Cross-Country the coming school year, and I just
started a strength training (weightlifting)
program. I was wondering, would building more
muscle mass help me improve my running or prepare
for Cross-Country?
Answer: No, although weightlifting is good, it's not gonna
help you with your running skills. I suggest that
you keep running. By running it will help you keep
your endurance up. If you are going to do Cross
Country, you're going to have to have good
endurance.

Question #18: Strength Training at Home?
Hi, I'm a teenage basketball player who wants to
work on my strength. Does anyone know any
inexpensive home gyms, or machines, or methods I
can do strength training at home? I've done light
dumbbells, pushups, and jumprope for a while now.
I want to go into heavy weight low reps.Is there
any method for me to work all my muscle groups at
home?
Answer: google "calisthenics" and you'll find
dozens of great strength training exercises you
can do all summer at no cost. There is SO much
people can do without a home gym or gym
membership, and most of it is more effective than
what people do with equipment.

Question #20: Can you train your body to improve by speed training instead of strength training?
I was told that weights slow down your reflexes
for sports activity. I believe it does with some
people being everyone's body is different. Anyway,
you do build strength through speed but not as
much as speed through strength anyone find this to
be true? I mean if I'm doing lots of sprints I'm
building muscle within my speed training so really
there's no need to stress strength training in
itself am I correct?
Answer: sure but you have to increase the time of training
not the mass
