Question #31: strength training for kids?
Hi, I would like to get a list of pros and cons
with regards to strength training for kids. thank
you
Answer: I only know that when I worked at the YMCA they
didn't recommend it until age 8 and then it was on
special resistant machines designed for their
size. The other thing that comes to mind was
something about the possibility of their growth
being affected if weight training was over done.
I think its great to encourge exercise for your
kids and explain all of the health benefits and
that it isn't just about looking good.

Question #33: Strength training advise?
I am trying to lose weight and have been doing
45-60 minutes of somewhat intense cardio for the
past 3 weeks. I would like to incorporate some
strength training into my workout but I would like
advice on a plan I can do at home with only body
weight. Such as crunches, pushups, squats, etc.
My main questions are:1. Can it be as effective as
using machines at the gym?2. If yes, could you
recommend a plan to get me started?I would
appreciate all input. Thank you.

Question #34: Strength training?
I am a 22 year old male that dropped over 60
pounds in the last 4 ½ months (from 312lbs to
under 250. I didn’t it all with a good diet and
cardio workouts. I think it is time for me to
start strength training, because so far I
haven’t done any. I am kind of intimidated by it
because I have tried lifting weights in the past
and I have always giving up. I just don’t know
how to get started. Anyone had that same problem
as me and overcome it? How do I get started? What
should my goals or expectations be? Right now I
lose about 3-4 pounds a week, should I expect to
lose less or even gain once I start? I guess I am
just complete clueless, so I will take any advice
that is given. Thanks
Answer: Well first of all, yes if you are gaining muscle
and working out you will either stop losing weight
or start gaining weight (muscle weight) But what i
would do is start easy, go to the gym or find some
weights that work for you, experiment a little.
once you find a good weight work yourself up from
there. Don't be embarrassed by how much you can
lift right now. I hope i helped a little

Question #36: Strength Training tips/nutrition.?
I am about to start a strength training regimen, I
currently take Taekwondo which is 90% Endurance
training. I am vary slim and wanted to put on some
extra muscle. I have a cross bow strength machine
and am about to start working out on it daily.
Anyway, my main question is that I haven’t never
really got into body building and wanted to know
what supplements I need to take. I heard whey
protein and creative, is that true? I hope to see
results in a month or two. I want some good
supplements but I don’t want to have to put out
A LOT of money for them, I see most the things on
GNC sells for between 40 to 80 a bottle! Thanks!
Answer: there are whey protein shakes out there that are a
good supplement, along with a good diet...high
protein some carb and don't 4get thoughts vegi's!
also when working out a good way to build muscle
is to start off with heavy weights and do a few
short reps and gradually decrease in weight. this
is a good way to bulk up and build muscle.

Question #37: Cardio or strength training for weight loss?
i have seen two separate trainers at my gym. One
says do cardio 50 minutes 3-4 days a week and 20
min and strength training the rest. The other
trainer says... do strength training 4-5 days a
week w/ 20 min cardio and maybe if i felt like
coming in 5-6 days do extra cardio. Which one is
best for losing 10 pounds and toning up and
getting rid of that dreadful body fat. I am not
terribly fat i weigh 145 and am 5'5 and female in
case you didnt know .... So what one! also
pyruvete? any good benefits?thanks so far... I
know you cant tone w/ cardio but i thought you had
to do cardio to lose the fat first.... The work
out world is so weird! everyone has there opinion
on what works best! I guess Its all about trying
and seeing what works!
Answer: I tend to think the second one's advice is better.
Building lean muscle mass means that you are
creating a more efficient fat-burning
"engine," even when you're body is at
rest. In other words, it raises your base
metabolic rate. Plus, you mentioned toning as a
goal. You can't "tone" with cardio.
You can only burn fat and expose untoned
muscles.ADDENDUM... You are still doing some
cardio with the second recommendation. It's all a
matter of emphasis. I think the second
recommendation is a more efficient path to your
goal, that's all.

Question #38: strength training?
why are u not suppose do strength training
exercises everyday(lift eights,crunches)?what will
happen if u do besides u will be sore and maybe
hurt ur muscles?
Answer: Your muscles need a chance to repair themselves
after strength training. Lactic acid build up is
the main culprit of soreness the next day, but
when you push yourself to yout limit you can also
create tiny tears in your muscle tissue which need
time to repair.Nothing terrible will happen to you
if you strength train every day, but consider
taking a couple days off a week. If you're
muscles are constantly in a state of repair it
will be hard to maximize the effectiveness of your
workout.

Question #39: Strength Training?
I do 18 sets of bicep curls. Half is regular
standing dumbbell curls, the other hammer curls. I
use pretty heavy weights well their heavy for me
60 pounds. I take 3 minute breaks between the
sets. This routine has been working for me I use
to be able to only do 40 pounds 3 month's later
I'm doing 60. I could probably do 70 pounds, but I
only wait until the weight feels kind of light.
Any way’s I just wanted to know if I’m doing
too many sets, or too little sets, or to little
reps, etc. If I am please feel free to offer
advice on how I could improve this. Remember I'm
going for strength not size.
Answer: It sounds like your body is responding well the
program you've got. That's pretty impressive.I
think you've hit the right amount of sets and
Muscle and Fitness magazine recommends going heavy
for strength. I suggest, though, trying other
forms of bicep exercises. Try preacher curls,
standing cable curls or even zottoman curls.
Here are some sample exercises: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?Ma
inMuscle=Biceps I've also gotten a lot of mileage
from doing curls while reclining on an incline
bench. If your bicep strength tapers off you might
want to change your routine. Also keep in mind
that other exercises (particularly those done for
your back) also work your biceps, so be sure you
have adequate rest between workouts. You might find
it help to get a subscription to Muscle and
Fitness magazine. They cover topics like this and
offer a lot of solid advice.Good luck.

Question #40: strength training - I want to get cut instead of bulky muscles?
I've been working out at gym on and off for more
than 2 years but not under a qualified trainer.
After two years, i find that my muscles pumped a

Please somebody tell me what is exactly strength
training. Is it less weight with more reps or very
heavy weight with less reps. It'll be great if
anyone can discuss this with me at length thru
chat or mail me at sanjayhyd05 at yahoo, so that
we can send mails back and forth.
Answer: Less wieght, more reps.
